I headed out to Philly to joined the BET Digital team as they filmed BET PUNCHLINES to promote the CREED II movie. Standing in the crowd, in the back of the Title Boxing Club, it was inspiring (and entertaining AF) to watch these men go toe-to-toe for the crown of having “best punchline”. I was just happy to be in the room but out of the ring lol.
There were two battles; K Walker vs Reed Dollaz followed by E Ness vs Bones Brigante . All these artist are incredibly talented, so my opinion had to lie in something else — personal preference. Both Reed Dollaz and Bones Brigante have really aggressive deliveries… while this can be intimidating, its also a bit offputting for me — but that’s battle rap. It’s just that the jokes can get really uncomfortable and you just sit there hoping they’ll shake hands when it’s done. K Walker is crazy with the wordplay and you could tell he took his time to write specifically for this filming; very professional. E Ness was amazing; I’ve never been more entertained in a battle rap face off. He’s truly something to admire as it seems no matter what his opponent says, he’s not shaken at all. To top it off, he comes back with ridiculous jokes that make you fall over laughing. It took everything for me not to continuously laugh out lough while he rhymes.
Battle rap in interesting in that it’s brutal and funny. Contestant go at each other’s heads, either bringing up and exaggerating ways to make fun, or straight up lying just to make a fool of their opponent. I could not be a battle rapper… my ego is way too fragile. The battles were hosted/moderated by Mouse Jones and judged by Loaded Lux and Serius Jones, all of whom did a wonderful job & were appropriately entertaining :) I really hate a wack host and/or dishonest judges -_-
Watch the battles below and let me know what you think!
